Keeping our eyes healthy is more important than we think. After all, good vision helps us do our work, drive our cars, or watch all of those Netflix shows we’ve been binging recently. While a regular eye exam is the best way to take care of your eye health, there are things you can do in your everyday life as well. Here’s where to start:

Watch your diet

All of those fats and sweets that you eat don’t just add on a few pounds—they can also impact your eye health. Eyes have their own nutritional needs, and the less those needs are met, the worse your eyesight can become. Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet can help every part of your body, your eyes included.

Be aware of your family history

Some eye diseases are genetic. While this doesn’t guarantee that you’ll get the same eye disease as one of your parents, it does heighten your risk. By being aware of your family history, you and your eye doctor can find a way to reduce your risk of developing those diseases later on in life.

Give your eyes a break from screens

This one may be easier said than done, but nonetheless it’s still important. Digital screens can tire out our eyes, dry them out, and even damage our retinal cells. So, the next time you find yourself staring at a screen for too long, practice the 20-20-20 rule: take a break every 20 minutes, to look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Wear your sunglasses and protective gear

It’s easier than you think for your eyes to get hurt, so take the extra steps to protect them as you’re going about your day. This means wearing your sunglasses while outside and wearing protective eye gear when you’re doing construction work or playing sports.

Here at ShadeTree Sunglasses, our goal is to provide people with fashionable, cost-effective, and eco-friendly options for their sunglasses. That’s why we offer a wide variety of wooden sunglasses for you to choose from. So, feel free to look through our inventory or contact us with any questions or concerns!
